Can I use a smartphone, tablet, or other mobile device?
Yes, though for time- and grade-critical activities, like taking quizzes, we recommend you use a supported desktop web browser and a reliable Internet connection. Additionally, some features of D2L—and features of tools like Blackboard Collaborate that D2L courses commonly use—may work differently, with reduced functionality, or not at all on mobile devices.
D2L itself works within the standard web browsers of supported mobile devices, and then several purpose-specific mobile apps supplement that.
Which mobile browsers are supported?
Please see below for information on which mobile web browsers and devices are officially supported in each of D2L's two mobile views: Mobile Web View and Desktop Web View. Mobile web browsers and devices not listed below may work with D2L, but only those listed below have been tested and certified by D2L.
In Mobile Web View
To Access Mobile Web View
Log into D2L normally, but from a mobile device. D2L will detect the mobile device and automatically provide Mobile Web View.
In Mobile Web View, D2L provides access to a select subset of D2L's full functionality in a format designed to better match the capabilities of devices with small screens.
In Desktop Web View
To Access Desktop Web View
Log into D2L normally, but from a mobile device. D2L will detect the mobile device and automatically provide Mobile Web View. Scroll to the bottom of the page and follow the "Desktop Version" link.
D2L officially supports the Desktop Web View only with certain tablet browsers. In Desktop Web View, D2L looks and functions similarly to the way it does in web browsers on standard desktop and notebook computers.
Other mobile web browsers may be able to enter Desktop Web View, but they are not officially supported, so you may encounter problems while attempting to use tools or features in D2L.
On what devices can I use the purpose-specific mobile apps?

The Assignment Grader is an app developed for iOS devices to allow faculty to grade dropbox items in their classes. The app allows grading of all the most common document types, and has the added feature of annotation tools not available within the D2L learning environment itself. All of the tools available in the dropbox grading area are available, including rubrics, feedback, file reply, and audio and video feedback. Another advantage right now is that the grader app will display rich-text documents (.rtf), at least for now, that file type does not display in the LE’s dropbox grading viewer.
Supported documents types include:
- Microsoft® Office® (Word®, Excel®, PowerPoint®)
- Apple iWork (Pages, Numbers, Keynote)
- Text based format (.txt)
- Rich Text (.rtf)
- Web Pages (.htm and .html)
- Images: .png, .gif,.jpg, and .tiff
- iPad-supported audio/video: eg: H.264, mp3, mp4
