Dear [Hiring Manager’s Name],
I was excited to discover the job opening at your salon on LinkedIn yesterday. Having worked in the hair care industry for over 6 years, I am confident that I have the necessary skills and experience to successfully fulfill the hair stylist position at Rocket Salon.
As a stylist at Club Hair, I honed my craft and became an expert in a wide spectrum of techniques, including coloring, balayage, thermal styling, and foiling. In your job description I also noticed that you are seeking someone with the ability to market and sell Rocket Salon’s popular line of hair care products. At Club Hair, I proved to be a sales specialist by increasing month-to-month revenue from our product lines by 10%.
I love that Rocket Salon has positioned itself as one of the trendiest salons in Boston. It is not a secret that clients have to book months in advance just to get an appointment. As someone who wants to continue to improve their skills and learn from the best, I recognize that there is no better opportunity than the position you are offering.
I believe that I am the perfect fit for this hair stylist position. I hope my application has offered enough information to warrant an interview. I would love to discuss more thoroughly how I can make positive contributions to your business. Please feel free to contact me at [Phone Number] or [Email Address]. Thank you for your time and consideration.
3. Cover Letter Writing Tips for a Hair Stylist
Do you excel at specific hair care techniques? Emphasize them
This step is a no-brainer. Salons prefer applicants who skills beyond just washing and cutting hair. If you have any specialties when it comes to styling, mention them in the second paragraph of your cover letter. The more skills you have, the more valuable you become.
If you are still new to the industry and have yet to learn the more advanced techniques, don’t worry. Focus on the one skill or technique that you feel you do exceptionally well and explain how you have mastered it.
Prove that you know how to sell
Many forget that being a hairdresser is not just a customer service job, it’s also sales job. Hair products offer much higher gross margins than the services themselves, meaning that they can be a strong source of revenue. In fact, on average, hair products can make up to 15% of a salon’s revenue.
So, if you have a proven ability to increase sales, don’t be afraid to flaunt it in your cover letter. Having experience selling hair products will put you out way ahead of other applicants.
Demonstrate that you are familiar with the salon
Near the end of your cover letter, it’s always a nice touch if you can demonstrate your knowledge of the salon you are applying to. Try mentioning what they are well known for or how popular their business has become in your city. Not only does this offer the employer with a little praise, but it also shows that you are knowledgeable about the local industry.
Hair Stylist Cover Letter and Resume Examples
When you are applying for a job, the first thing the hiring manager sees is your cover letter, even before they take a look at your resume. To make sure they want to see that next page, you need to compose a cover letter that gets their attention and highlights a few relevant skills and experiences.
Your cover letter shouldn’t reiterate what is on your resume, but rather, call attention to a few details that make you perfect for the position.

Dear Mr./Ms. Firstname Lastname,
I would like to express my strong interest in your hair stylist position at Shear Hair Salon. With years of experience as a hair stylist and colorist for a wide client base, I know my skill and versatility would make me an asset to your salon.
I have over five years of experience working as a hair stylist for a variety of people and hair types. I graduated from the ABC School of Hair Design and Cosmetology, where I gained over 1,000 hours of experience styling, coloring, and treating hair. I subsequently worked for four years at La Flor Hair Salon, where I honed my skills and also learned new treatments, including balayage and keratin treatments.
My clients recommend me to others for my skill and versatility.
You state in your job posting that you want a hair stylist who can also work part-time at the reception desk. Having worked as a receptionist for a spa and a hair salon, I am very comfortable communicating with clients both on the phone and in person.
Both clients and employers have praised my strong communication skills, and I am confident I can bring those skills to a position at your salon.
I have attached my resume and the two requested recommendations for your review. I will call your office next week to arrange a time to speak in person about my qualifications. Thank you for considering my application.
